|Title||2020-21 GPAS Business Agreement Ceremony|
On the 19th of February, 2020, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held the 2020-21 GPAS Business Agreement Ceremony at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, working with major Korean international studies graduate programs at Korea University, Pusan National University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies to train next-generation local area experts.
Senior Vice President (Acting President) Chul Chung of KIEP attended the ceremony, together with the deans of international studies graduate schools participating in the program, and shared the goals and the cooperation system for the successful implementation of the project.
Since 2008, KIEP has been operating the Graduate Program for Area Studies (GPAS) project, actively supporting research on relatively less-favored areas with a weak foundation for research through lectures provided by domestic and foreign experts, field research, overseas study and internship programs, special lectures by world-famous scholars and a variety of other programs. This year’s GPAS project will be held at the five international studies graduate schools signing the business agreement beginning from March, 2020, with a focus on the seven regions of China, Southeast Asia, South Asia (including India), Russia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe.
Over the past three years, around 170 participants have been awarded scholarships and more than 150 students have taken part in overseas internships and field surveys. A large number of graduates have utilized the local area expertise they gained through the program to advance on to international organizations, government-funded research institutes, and private companies.
